Here are
some guidelines for Puget Sound
Coho
fishing:
-
Coho Salmon return home to Puget
Sound Rivers in the Fall.
September can be excellent
weather or it can be rainy
so prepare for both.
- The
best fishing is early in the
morning or when the current
is moving after a tide
change.
- GO
FAST!! Coho like fast
moving baits so keep the
speed up. 3.5 miles per hour
or faster.
-
Coho are usually
caught in the top 60 ft. of
water early in the day, but occasionally on
sunny days, will go quite
deep.
-
Downriggers of course are
the most effective way of
fishing because it gives you
depth control.
- The
most effective lures when
Coho fishing are Squids or
spoons trailed on short
leaders behind a flasher of
dodger, Cut plug herring is
also very effective.
- Add a
piece of Gulp or herring to
the Squid for increased
attraction.
- These
are schooling fish so don't
leave fish to find fish. If you land a
fish, circle around and hit
the school again.
- Have
fun and catch some fish.
- Fire
up the Barbecue now as I am
getting hungry for a Coho
